King &Bear Calendar

Events for the  WGV area are listed below which should give you some ideas on what to do with all of your spare time.

Hi Neighbors,

I’ve been updating the calendar at http://calendar.yahoo.com/wgvcalendar  but remember that this is not all inclusive.  Just some local highlights.  We are lucky to live in an area, St. Augustine, that offers so many events, festivals, art walks, theatre, and more.  For detailed local activity calendar events, check the weekly supplements like the Compass and the St. Johns Sun in the St. Augustine Record or Florida Times Union’s Jack and the monthly World Golf Village Community Journal.

More St. Patrick’s Day fun

Our Lady of Good Counsel (OLGC) is featuring Lean Corned Beef & Cabbage dinner with boiled Irish seasoned potatoes and rye bread for just $10; children’s menu is $3.  Additionally Irish & American Desserts and beverages will be available for purchase.  Irish music provided by Brett DeVoe & Co.  Location: 1 mile north of International Golf Pkwy and Pacetti Rd. on SR 16; look for signs on the right.  And be careful of all the construction in that area.

March 27th Open House at MuraBella Animal Hospital

10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday with free gifts for attendees, raffles, tours of the new hospital and the Pacetti Rd. pet resort and spa, plus other activities.  3625 Pacetti Rd.   Phone #940-9401.

March 28th Afternoon Tea at Casa Monica

Encore Presentation featuring Five Women of the Ages, a dramatization by Karen Harvey, Author.  Accompanied by Marianne Lerks, Fine Artist. $35 per person.  Our neighbor Kathy has   advised that “we had this event in January, the response was so amazing ,with many requests to do it  again that we have decided to do so.”  For reservations contact Kathy by March 25th kdvor@bellsouth.net.  Proceeds benefit The Florida Heritage Book Festival.

Night Owl Cinema Series is Back

I noticed the calendar for the St. Augustine Amphitheatre has the FREE night owl cinema series movies are not just on Friday’s anymore.  They’re alternating Friday’s and Saturday’s and not every week – or at least not on the calendar now.  I’ve added what was listed on our calendar, but the best place to check is:  www.staugamphitheatre.com.  Another local Fun, Free, Family activity.  Here are some of the movies currently listed:  Iron Man, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Twilight, Rocky, Charlotte’s Web.

Pink Magazine Trade Show Event – March 27th Update

Going to attach this latest flyer because it also has many speakers who will be part of this event.  I thought I would carve out a few hours for this Saturday event, but now I may need to just figure on the whole day!

HAVE TO GO CHECK OUT THE OSCAR’S SHOW … until next time … have a good day!

Please forward this email on to anyone you think may want local information.  Send me emails of anyone who wants to be on my email list and I’ll be glad to add them.

Census

The Census is also coming to town … sort of … in the mail and if you don’t respond they’ll be knocking on your door.  I read Cyndi Stevenson’s article in the last WGV Community Journal and realized how important it is to providing funds for our county – so when we all receive our notice in the mail this month we should make a big effort to get this completed and sent back.  Visit www.census2010.gov or www.stjohnscounts.com for more info.  We need all the $ we can get for our county – let’s do it!

April 17th – WGV Garage Sale

St. Patrick’s Day Celebration at the German-American Club – March 13th

A neighbor has shared this info from the German-American Club of St. Augustine – all are welcome.  They have ongoing fun activities including different food and music themes.  You can always call one of these numbers for more info:  824-8397 or 829-9956.  The St. Patrick’s Day celebration includes corned beef and cabbage, potatoes and more. St. Patricks Day Celebrations

I’m sure I’ll be hearing about more local restaurants and churches offering special St. Pat’s dinner specials and I’ll report them as I hear about them!

Irish Dancing

To get in the spirit of things … why not take a class at Glas Tara School of Irish Dance.  All ages – all levels.  Classes are given at the Ponce Mall Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. and Thursday’s at 6:30 p.m.  I think it would be great exercise!!  Contact Kathleen C. Barnard, TCRG at 484-4040 or Kathleen Green, Asst. Inst. 814-2966.  Ask them about a FREE lesson!

CaddyShack News

Did you hear that CaddyShack now has HAPPY HOUR – Every day!?  Most places offer happy hour prices M-F but never on the weekend.  But remember – it’s only at the bar, not a dining tables.  You can eat at the bar if you’d like.

And throughout the restaurant you can get in on the new “Sunset Specials” daily from 3 pm – 6 pm at $9.99.  It’s a selection of some of their favorites, a smaller portion and smaller price!  I’m tired of taking leftovers home when the meal offered is way too large to eat at one time – I’d rather pay less and get less and enjoy it more often!  Here is the list of the Sunset Specials – ½ Rack of Ribs & Fries, Braised Pot Roast, Seafood Pasta Abruzzi, ¼ Roasted lemon Thyme Chicken, Beer Battered Fish & Chips, The Greenskeeper, Caddyshack’s Cashew Chicken, and Sunset Catch-Grilled Salmon.

Their new menu has been released offering many choices from chicken wings, nachos, their awesome onion rings to steak, crab cakes, catch of the day, salads, hamburgers and more.  New:  Flatbreads – these look like pizzas but are on flatbreads – I saw quite a few of them Friday night just at the bar.  The “Sicilian” seemed to be the most popular with mild Italian sausage, pepperoni, sautéed peppers, mushrooms, onions & sauce.

Update – Pink Magazine Symposium, Trade show & Fund Raiser

March 27th from 10 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

I’m attaching a flyer from Pink Magazine – it provides an update with a list of vendors that have signed up so far for this event that is being held at the Renaissance Resort at WGV.  A portion of proceeds will go toward the Joanne Arnett Tutschek Fund which was established at the Flagler Healthcare Foundation to help women in St. Johns’s County who cannot afford the tests needed.

A Day of Fun for the Family...YOU enjoy Smart Women Wear Pink and other Great savings!

Admission to the World Golf Hall of Fame, the IMAX and the 18- hole natural turf putting Course - $15 per person. Admission to an IMAX Theater movie $5 per person. Bring the family & enjoy the day!

Shellfish Grille

I’m glad to report news from neighbors who have been to the new Hall of Fame (Shellfish Grille) and have been raving about the food and the PRICES.  They’re still making plans for their screened in extended deck in the back – this is going to be a great place to sit outdoors without those pesky summer insects!
