WGV Texas Hold-em
Invitational Championship tournament
Bob Thornton Takes
the Title!
This was a great evening of poker.
48 players crammed into the Amenities center of the King and
Bear this evening to witness some great hands of No Limit
Texas Hold-em Poker. It was a tight squeeze but we all
managed to fit in.
The evening started out with the
introduction and return of our old friend Carolyn Sanders.
Carolyn was my key person when we were setting up our first
WGV Texas Hold-em games back in 2007. It was great to see
her and... the fact that she had lost 130 pounds! Most
people did not recognize her! Carolyn had moved from the
King and Bear to Colorado in 2010. She looks great!
Chas won the 50/50 which
promptly got a round of boos from the crowd.
Ha... Tough Nugees!
Pizza from Cino's was delivered just
in time for the first break. We all enjoyed the comfortable
party atmosphere on the patio of the Amenities center.
High hand for the evening was an odd
one. First of all we were giving away two prizes.
One for high hand and one for first
runner up. The runner up was Pat Castellano. She had
a full house and won the set of "GAMBLER" golf balls.
George Sabato and Shan Giordano split the high
hand of Four Fives with an Ace kicker. How does that
happen?....
Well it was an unusual hand as all
four fives came up on the board and both had an ace kicker
in their hands. Good thing for George that they split as he
was "All In" on that hand. The $94 was slit between the two
players.
The Giordano's did well this
evening as Shan, just coming off her WGV Golf Club
Championship win this past weekend, came in the money at the
final table and split the Hi-Hand pool.
Congratulations to Shan!
Then Jim Giordano fought a hard
battle into the late evening to place in third position
for our championship evening. The Giordano's won big this
evening! Nice Going!
The top honors of the evening have to
go to the play of both Carolyn Schreiber and Bob
Thornton.

June helps Carolyn with counting up a
bet. Rake them in ! Carolyn!
Carolyn, again and again came through
on the River to win and win and win again and again.
She could do no wrong! She made some great plays and
outstanding "Calls" in her quest for the championship.
Her magic continued until she met our
other player who was slowly, and quietly amassing a large
number of chips, Bob Thornton.
"Sleepy" Bob Thornton, once
known as "One Chip" was just too much for Carolyn in
heads up play. Bob would complain that "It was late
and he wanted to go home." It seems this was all part
of his game plan.
Whenever he complained and went all
in, he had trip eights or pocket kings!
He's a crafty player! " I'm
tired...oh boy, am I tired" then he'd lay down a
straight to the queen. Oy!
Then again...Carolyn also laid down
several traps for Bob.
The two great players went back and
forth with a mountain of chips each but in the end...Bob
Thornton came out on top as our WGV Champion for 2011.

Congratulations to Bob and Carolyn
for some great, entertaining poker.
Thanks to everyone who helped put this
event together. Bob Thornton, Carolyn Schreiber, Art
Niosi, Terry Leonard, June, my wife Doris and all our
dealers for the evening. You all made this come off
with out a hitch.
Thanks, so much!
Congratulations to
Bob Thornton our 2011 WGV Texas Hold-Em Champion!
