Pizza...What's the deal? What's your favorite
Pizza Place?
| OK, so what's the deal with "Good Pizza? You just can't find
a good pizza place away from home. I guess this is such a personal selection that it
is difficult for everyone or anyone to agree.
Anyway, being from the northeast, we like a thin crust, well done pizza.
Some like a deep dish, thick, Chicago style pizza. Some like a lot of cheese, some
like to fold the slice. |

This restaurant is located next to Hobby Lobby. I have had
lunch several times and it has been excellent each time. The
bagels are delicious and since the restaurant is open from 6am
to 3pm (closed Mondays) the bagels go on sale at 2pm. They are
made fresh daily.

Rose Marie and I had an early dinner. Bistro de Leon opens at
5:30 and our reservation was for 5:30. At that early time,
reservations are not needed, but around 6:00 p.m., this small
restaurant fills up quickly. By 6:30 p.m., they were turning
away walk-ins and the restaurant was getting packed. The
restaurant consists of a narrow room with tables to the right
and a large refrigerated case to the left. The case contains the
dessert selections and other items sold during the breakfast and
lunch hours. Past the case are more tables on the right and
left, which yield a seating capacity of about 45. The service is
shared by the entire staff, with the owner (madam) frequently
visiting the table to serve items or see if we needed anything.
The wine list is not extensive and is naturally weighted toward
French wines, but the prices were not the usual excessive amount
we see in some restaurants. Do not eat here if you are in a
hurry because the restaurant gives you time to enjoy each course
while taking in the atmosphere of this busy place.
Rose Marie had the best Kir (creme de cassis and white wine) she
ever had (called Kir Chardonnay on the menu) and I had the
French beer. As soon as the appetizer order went in, they served
a basket of fresh French bread and butter. The bread was
wonderful, with a crunchy crust and tasty interior. And they
keep serving more bread until you cry "uncle." To start, Rose
Marie had the spring mix salad and I had the lobster ravioli and
both were wonderful. After the appetizers, they served an amuse-bouche
consisting of a small serving of delicious potato soup. For the
main course, Rose Marie ordered the grilled salmon steak with
béarnaise sauce, vegetables and rice. I had the risotto of
shrimp, scallops, and fish in a porcini creamy sauce. These
dishes were expertly prepared, exquisitely presented, and best
of all, tasty. We had to skip dessert because we were too full,
but the dessert case is crammed full of yummy looking fruit
torts, cheesecake, and other delights.
As noted, the pace of service is leisurely and enjoyable. Only
the server who was hired a week ago seemed not to be fully
informed on the menu, but she had plenty of nearby help to
answer questions.
This is a restaurant to visit again. Exceptionally prepared
fresh food, attentive service, and fair prices might make it our
favorite. The menu on their web site is not up to date, which
means they change it as available ingredients change. That is a
good thing.

We took the advice of a good friend, Al LeBeau, and ate lunch at
Bistro de Leon, across from Founder's Square in ST. Augustine.
Al's grandson, Alex, a Flagler student, works at the Bistro.
Marge and I both had the Lyon's Onion soup, baked with
caramelized croutons and Swiss cheese...the best we've ever had
and we have lived in Europe and visited Paris several times.
Marge had another appetizer, the Empanadas, which were tasty but
a little too much pastry. I had their specialty Fish "Quenelle"
soufflé, crab meat and fish baked in a Lobster Bisque. It was
absolutely delicious, very light and wonderful flavor. The next
time, we're having their Bouillabaisse. Chef Poinard is a 5th
generation chef and he and his wife do all the cooking...fresh.
The service is excellent and friendly. You must give Bistro de
Leon a try; you will be very pleased.

This is one of the up-scale restaurants up at the St Johns Town
Center. Very nice. Service was perfect. The waitress know her
menu and recommended some perfect selections for us.
I had the Parmesan Crusted Chicken
Angel hair pasta with herb garlic butter, lemon pan jus,
fresh tomato-basil relish 15.50. Wow!
The Best Ever! Loved it!
My wife Doris had the Blackened Salmon Spinach Salad
Georgia pecans, red onion, Granny Smith apples,
gorgonzola cheese 14.95.
Absolutely LOVED IT!
Everyone at our table...8 of us...all
loved their meal and the entire dining
experience. The Lobster Bisque was
great.
Prices of entree's range from $15
to $27.
For dessert we had the 7 layer carrot
cake for $6.95 that all 8 of us shared and still took some of it
home! Again, it was wonderful!
My wife and I do not drink a lot so we got
out of there for about $50.00. Wine or drinks would
naturally run the tab up a bit.
They do take reservations and at times
with all the restaurants in this quadrant of St Johns Town
Center do get crowded.
I would highly recommend this place for
any special evening or a great lunch! The Best!

This is a Japanese Steak House located on CR 312 in the Publix
shopping center. They put on the typical show which was quite
entertaining. The service was a little slow as they were quite
crowded but all in all it was worth the wait.
The Chef comes out and does his routine of throwing things in
the air, twirling eggs on a spatula, and shooting flames in the
air off the grille.
Dinners are prepared right in front of you and range from Shrimp
and Chicken to Steak and Chicken to Shrimp and Scallops and a
host of other classic Japanese choices. Sushi is also served.
Dinners range in price from $12 to $30 and you do get a lot of
food for the money.
I had the Fillet and Shrimp which was great. Very Tender
meat. My wife Doris had the Shrimp and Scallops. Also Great!

Great place to go for that "Special
Occasion." A little too pricey for everyday visits.
On the scale of a Ruth's Chris or Morton's Steak House.
Excellent service. If you go there and make a reservation, tell
them its your birthday and you will get a free photo of your
party and a free dessert.
They have been voted the "Best Wine Selection" by Wine Digest
magazine. Their wine list is two pages long. They are very
proud of their wine list.
The food was great. I had the "Bone-in Kona Crusted Dry Aged
Sirloin" with Shallot Butter. The steak was good but not as
tender as Ruth's Chris. It also had a seam of grizzle running
through it which could not be eaten.
My wife had one of their side dishes for a meal...Lobster
Mac-N-Cheese. Wow! That was great! The service here is
outstanding. The food presentation was excellent. Everything
about this place is great. I just didn't think their "Dry Aged
Steak" was as tasty or as tender as other famous steak houses
around. The soups were wonderful. I had
the New England Clam Chowder and my wife Doris had the Lobster
Bisque. Both were very good.
The prices were a bit high as
well. Everything is Ala Cart. Steaks range from $36 to $45.
Soups around $8. Expect a meal for a party of two without
drinks to be about $120.00.

Open since November 2009, III Forks is the latest upscale
steakhouse to come to Jacksonville. The original is in Dallas,
TX. Far from Texas steakhouse decor, III Forks has a distinctly
modern feel, including the longitudinal fireplace and the glass
enclosed wine cellar.
First, the downside: prices for wine and the a la carte food
items are at the Morton's and Ruth's Chris atmospheric levels.
That said, the food was excellent, featuring prime cuts of meat.
Rose Marie started with the Ceaser salad and I had bacon-wrapped
scallops, both of which were well prepared and presented. The
bread served with the appetizers was also excellent, with a
crunchy crust and chewy center. The main course for both of us
was the filet, with one cooked medium rare (correctly) and one
cooked medium (slightly underdone). For sides we shared the
sauted mushrooms and the six cheese potatoes. Both were
excellent. These au gratin potatoes have six Italian cheeses. We
did not have dessert, but saw a huge slice of chocolate cake go
by for another table that looked delicious.
We noticed a few lapses in service, despite the attentiveness of
the server and the visits by the sommelier and the manager.
First, instead of being served drinks, bread, then appetizers,
we got appetizers, then drinks, finally bread. Second, we
ordered the Ceaser salad with anchovies in lieu of red peppers
but the red peppers were served with the anchovies anyway.
Third, no dessert menu was presented; the server just recited
several from memory but we had the feeling that the list was not
complete.
In summary, for a new restaurant, III Forks is a good place to
go for a special occasion or when the urge for prime steaks
becomes overpowering. The minor service issues will no doubt be
corrected with a little time and the food, ambiance, and eager
wait staff far outweigh the minor glitches.

This restaurant is located in the WGV Renaissance Resort Hotel,
where a $10M renovation has taken place updating it to the
eclectic looking place it is today. Most times we eat in the
beautiful lounge area, I like eating at the high
top tables. There are plenty of flat tv screens for
watching your favorite sports, news, etc. They have football
specials on Sundays. But we went there for their special
stimulus dinner (Sun-Thurs 5pm-6:30pm). For $9.99 you can
choose from 4-5 dinner choices (with choices changing every few
months) and that includes a glass of wine, or domestic draft
beer or a soda. The meatloaf and creamy mashed potatoes are a
favorite. We sometimes go in to chill out with a glass of wine
and one of their appetizers, like my favorite, coconut shrimp.
There are lots of choices, something for every palate. Don't
forget to look for their latest offering of buy one adult entree
and get one free (free entree to be of equal or lesser value not
to exceed $20) -- offered after 6:30 pm -- Valid Tuesday and
Wednesday only; this is in the Mint Magazine. Many of my
neighbors are regulars here! Enjoy!

This is a great place to get a sandwich. The food is good and
reasonably priced. Their Philly Cheese

I would recommend this place if you are in the mood for a
sandwich. The only complaint I might
have is that the service is a little slow. It takes a
while to get your food. Be prepared to wait about ten
minutes for your food. A good place for lunch.

King and bear restaurant – Champions Grille
Recently the King and Bear restaurant has begun offering their
Friday Night dinners and Happy Hour specials again. They
offered this several years ago and everyone thought it was
great. They offer wonderful food, a close proximity for us
living in World Golf Village, and reasonable prices. Their Happy
Hour drink prices run from 4 pm to 7pm and the dinner service
runs from 5 pm to 7 pm Fridays only.
Let me tell you the food is great. Most of their entree’s
cost $9.95 and drinks are two for one. Last week they had a
meatloaf special that was wonderful. Maybe the best meatloaf
I’ve ever had. This week I had the Chicken Schnitzel served with
tri-colored roasted potatoes and sugar snap peas..
Again…outstanding.
Other featured meals were Sliced Roast Sirloin, Pub Style Fish
and Chips, Fried Shrimp Burgers, Wings, etc.
Service is good but often understaffed.
Drinks are good and the atmosphere here is wonderful.
Desserts are an assortment of cheesecakes that are also very
good. The dessert portions are small but it’s probably best
left that way.
It’s best to get there early as their tables fill up.
I would highly recommend you spend Friday evenings at the
King and Bear Clubhouse and join your neighbors for the Happy
Hours and their Dinner Specials. A great place to run into and
meet your neighbors. We’re all here!
They are also open for breakfast and lunch menus but the
review here is for their Friday Nights Happy Hours and Diners.
(They do offer a very good breakfast & Lunch menu)
Friday nights specials are open to the
public and not just for members of the golf club.
They tell me as long as we keep giving
them business they will continue having these Friday Night
Diners.

This is a very nice restaurant overlooking a marina
across the Lions Bridge in St Augustine. The food is
good but it is the atmosphere that really makes this
restaurant something special. Outdoor dining in the
raised table huts is really nice. The Caribbean flair of
the menu is also a nice touch. Drink specials and
dessert specials are wonderful. Shrimp and seafood items
are the main thrust of the menu but occasionally they
feature a prime rib special that is great. The menu is a
little pricey but this is a place is worth the visit.
Ask to sit in one of the outdoor palapas.

This is a good outdoor dining place overlooking the marina and
the Vilano Bridge. I usually have one of the wraps. The fajita
wrap with shrimp or chicken for $8 is pretty good. This time I
had the Sirloin, Bacon and Cheese sandwich
for $9. It was a bit dry. My wife, Doris had the Caesar
wrap with shrimp. $9. Our waiter forgot our soup and did not
offer any of the specials that some of the other waiters
offered. The entrees are a bit pricey $19 - $29.
Sometimes bugs can be a problem dining outdoors here but we
did see other waiters offering bug spray to their customers.
Our waiter said they had no bug spray. I
would still recommend the Kingfish Grill as we love the outdoor
dining area here.

This was our first time at this restaurant. It was recommended
by our friend Karen form the fitness center. She claimed it was
her favorite restaurant in the area. A bit far to
drive but we had to check it out.
Great Restaurant!! It is now
one of our favorite restaurants. It is well worth the scenic
ride down A1A . If you are in a hurry, take RT 95 but if you
have the chance, take the scenic route along the ocean. It’s a
great ride. It's 12 blocks south of the
fishing pier.
Anyway, back to the restaurant...
I must admit we have ridden past this place dozens of times and
never knew there was a restaurant there at all. They are situated
overlooking the ocean with indoor and outdoor seating. Very
nice. Inside it is a museum of old collectable toy cars,
trains, and whatever. We ate out on the porch
overlooking the ocean. Very Nice.
Now for the food. The bread
was home baked and excellent. The wine list is
extensive. The appetizers are wonderful. For
the Entrees I had the Parmesan Crusted Double Cut Pork
Chop which was three inches thick. $19. One of the best pork
chops I have ever had. Cooked to perfection without overcooking
and drying it out. My wife Doris had the Wasabi Horseradish
Honey Crusted Salmon. $19. One of the best Salmon dishes she
has ever had. Each diner comes with salad/Caesar salad or
soup. The Dessert menu was extensive. We had the white
chocolate, raspberry cheesecake with strawberries. Oy!! Out of
this world. You have got to try this.
The place is reasonably priced as
the two of us got out of there for $51.00 but
... that was without alcoholic drinks. Those of you who
have a couple of drinks at dinner will pay a bit more.

A great seafood place. A bit out of the way but well worth the
drive. Take the CR210 bridge over the Intracoastal waterway,
make a sharp right and go under the bridge like you are going
up to Barbara Jeans or Lulu's. The place is on the left
just before Lulu's.
Serving lunch and dinner this is probably one of the premiere
seafood restaurants in our area. It also features a Southern
style to the cooking with many dishes coming with a side of
Grits, Conch Fritters or Collard Greens.
I had the Fried Shrimp Platter that was big enough to take half
home. The shrimp was fresh, tender and cooked to perfection.
Excellent! My wife Doris had the Grilled Salmon with Seamed
Spinach and New Potatoes. Again...Excellent.
Fresh seafood is on display as the catch comes in.

What a nice surprise this place was!
We've often passed this place when going to Barbara Jeans or
Lulu's but never thought anything of it. The place
is well hidden.
Actually I thought it was a bait store for
the boats using the boat ramp for the intracoastal. In
fact it is an upper scale restaurant with a New Orleans/Burban
Street flair to the menu. Walk in and go past the bar area
to the dining room to the back of the place. You walk past the
kitchen and look at some of the fresh catch on display. The
seafood is fresh and some of the best in town.
This is a rustic casual-fine dining
restaurant with indoor/outdoor seating overlooking the
Intracoastal Waterway.
Appetizers feature Crawfish Spring Rolls
and Bayou BBQ Shrimp and Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes just to mention a
few. The Bread was kind of bland but the meals were great.
I had the Creole Meatloaf with mashed
potatoes and veggies for $15 and my wife Doris had a special of
the day being a Hog Nosed Snapper at $24. Both were
Excellent. Other entree's featured Fresh Market Catch, Several
Specials, Bridge Fried Shrimp, Mojo Marinated Cuban Roast Pork
and some Jambalaya. They also featured Burgers sandwiches
and wraps. Salads were very good and the Mayport Shrimp Bisque
is not to be missed. For desert we tried the Bread Pudding
which was very good but not as good as Harry's. Harry's is
still the best for Bread pudding.
The service was excellent and the views
outstanding. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. They
offer a children's menu as well and a full bar. They do
take reservations and they do recommend that on the weekends as
they do get busy.
Not much to look at from the outside but a
very nice restaurant and a sing-a-long bar on the inside.
I would highly recommend this place.

Casa Monica Hotel
downtown St. Augustine (904) 810-6810
95
Cordova St. St. Augustine, FL 32084
Chas Stamm 7/2009
This is one of the more up-scale restaurants in
St. Augustine. It is also in one of the more historic buildings
in all of St. Augustine as well. Actually I think it is the
oldest hotel in the United States. They call their restaurant 95
Cordova. I assume that refers to their address. The restaurant
features New World, Middle Eastern and Asian flavors.
A place that you might not go every day, but for
that special occasion, it is great. This would be a really nice
place to go to for a birthday, anniversary, and perhaps some
special guests coming to stay with you.
It is a bit pricey but well worth the
experience. Right away you feel the ambiance of a lavishly
decorated establishment. When you walk into the place and see
all the extravagant decorations, I immediately think of “Who’s
paying for all this?” Chandeliers, silk curtains, ornate tables
and chairs and all the rest. The menus are a nice surprise. When
opened they are backlit for easy reading in a dark atmosphere.
A really nice touch.
Service is impeccable. All the food excellent and
well presented. I chose the 7oz fillet with mashed potatoes.
The steak was $22, the potatoes were $4. Most things on the menu
are ala cart. The Caesar Salad I ordered was a nice surprise of
romaine lettuce with a touch of chilled salmon, some sort of
crispy chip and several sauces. Very nice at $8 but you can see
how things are adding up. This is how they are paying for the
fancy curtains. I’m already at $32 and I have not had anything
to drink yet.
My wife, Doris had the AHI TUNA WITH THAI PEANUT
SAUCE with lo mein noodles, wakami, abc soy, sweet chili sauce.
That was $28. There was not a drop of food left on her plate.
Again, it was excellent. For dessert we shared a Key Lime pie
that was the best we’ve had in a very long time.
Art Niosi of Royal Pines tells me the Chilean
Sea Bass is the best around. We will have to try that the next
time we go.
An extensive wine list is featured as well.
The menu changes seasonally so what you have one
time may not appear the next time you go.
You can call for reservations or sign up for
reservations on line. A nice feature.
You should try this restaurant as it is one of
the best St. Augustine has to offer.

Great Place! Really good food and
huge portions. This place is right in the center of the St
John's Town Center. A Big Place. Prices are
reasonable and the help is superb. This place reminded me
of Mulberry Street down in lower Manhattan. The old photos on
the wall, the decorations, the lighting, everything all the way
down to the background music and the red checkered table cloths.
All these coupled with some great food and you have one heck of
an Italian dinner experience.
I love spaghetti and meatballs.
I also love Italian sausage. I have to try the Italian sausage
and the meatballs in just about every Italian restaurant I go
in. That is my standard of comparison. My wife uses the
Eggplant Parmesan. I have to say that this was one of the best
spaghetti and meatballs dinner I have had in a real long time.
I ordered it with the Italian sausage. The marinara sauce
was excellent and the meatballs and sausage were great.
The $12.50 price for a small portion was plenty big enough for
me to take half the meal home for a second dinner.
My wife had the Eggplant parm and I asked
her on a scale of one to ten what she would give it and she gave
it a 9. I give the spaghetti a 10. The food was
great. The help was also very attentive.
They offer a full bar along with an
extensive wine list.
If you have room...an extensive Dessert
menu ranges from Crème Brulee to home made pastries to NY Style
Cheesecake to Tiramisu to everything in between.
It does get crowded up at the St John's
Town center but this place does accommodate a lot of customers
and they do take reservations. Both of us would highly
recommend this place.
My new "Favorite Place!"
They have a very good web site that
includes a lot of info on their establishment.

The head cook of the Ginger Bistro bought the
place and opened up his own place. Good news for us because we
always loved the Ginger Bistro. Those who frequented the
Ginger Bistro will be familiar with this menu as it has many of the
same dishes.
This evening my wife got the Honey Glazed
Walnut Shrimp for $13. A favorite of hers and was pleasantly
surprised to find it again on the menu. This comes with soup
and salad included with the price. I got the Mongolian Beef
which I always liked at the Ginger Bistro and it was as good as I
remember. This was $10 which also included soup and salad.
We began our meal with some Cheese Wantons
which were great. Service was excellent. The
waitress really knew her dishes.
This is a very good restaurant with very
reasonable pricing. I would highly recommend it.

Went back again to see how things were going
for the new owners of this restaurant. The food and service
again were excellent. Still $10 got you a great meal with soup
and salad included. Not a very busy place. Very neat and clean
but not a lot of customers. Easy to walk right in without a
reservation. The appetizers are great. We had the Crispy
Shrimp Wantons for $5. Doris got the Honey Glazed Walnut Shrimp
again and I again got the Mongolian Beef. Each of us got two meals
out of the entrees. I have to say I am impressed with this place

This is an upscale Thai restaurant with some
upscale prices but well worth the experience. the ambiance is
refreshing and elegant. The food superb. The serve is
excellent. For an appetizer we had the Golden
Curry & Lump Blue Crab Stuffed Rangoons Sweet & Sour Dipping Sauce…that
was $8. For an entrée I had the
Spicy Thai Drunken Noodles. With that you get a
choice of Chicken, Beef, Pork or Tofu $17 or
Shrimp for $21. My wife Doris had the Classic Pad Thai

Both meals were excellent.

This is a very well hidden, upscale restaurant
at the south end of St Augustine that will surprise you. The food
is Excellent. The presentation is wonderful and the service is
outstanding. Our waiter reminded me of the old English butler in the
movie “Arthur.” He was very “Proper” and knew his menu very well.
As a “Meat and Potatoes” kind of guy,
and being a bit “Thrifty,” I had the Grilled Chicken Breast.
It was the least expensive item on the menu at $17. It was topped
with a basil and pine nut pesto and served with potato gnocchi. It
was great! My wife Doris had the Grilled Salmon with
a tangy Cape Malay Curry sauce with
onions, bell pepper, dried apricots and raisins served with fried
plantains. Oy! Another wonderful dish at $19. Our friends Greg and
Taffy Smith both had the special of the evening, Chilean Sea Bass.
It was the best they’ve ever eaten! That was somewhat pricey at $30.
The menu featured other dishes ranging from
Medallions of Beef Tenderloins at $30 along with Seared Jumbo Sea
Scallops at $23 to Seared Breast of Duck at $25.
A favorite dessert was the special Bananas
Foster and Nana’s Lemon Cake. Both were outstanding.

If there is a negative to this place
it’s the looks and location. It
is located across Rt 1 across from the Publix shopping

A bit of a ride for those of us at WGV

Outwardly, the looks
of the place makes me feel like it is, well...an old movie
theater or strip club or something like that. No windows.
Don't let that bother you! Go in! It is a
great place to eat.

This is an upscale
contemporary American restaurant
placing a special emphasis on food quality and professional service.
A national chain of restaurants. Four of us went to this
eatery and everyone was impressed. A call ahead feature really
put us to the head of an hour long wait. It's best to call
ahead. 904-996-7147.
For
starters we tried the "Colossal Buttermilk Onion Rings." Wow!
A tree of huge stacked onion rings that stood a foot high.
They were great!
My wife, Doris had the Veggie Burger of a
lifetime. "The best ever!" It was huge! I had the Rattlesnake
Pasta with southwestern spices, peppers and chicken. It was
prepared perfectly and plenty of it. $14. For dessert we
shared one of the best pieces of Carrot Cake we have ever had.
It was brought out warm with a nice cream cheese icing.
Excellent! $6 Well worth it! All desserts are made in
the restaurant and not store bought or shipped in. Mike and
Marlene Bailey swear they have some of the best "Baby Back Barbeque
Ribs on the planet. Next time I have to give them a try.
Mike
had their Chili and Iron Skillet Cornbread that was out of this
world!
They
feature an extensive wine list along with a number of handcrafted
premium martinis. The service for our table was handled by what
seemed to be a staff of 4 who attended to our every wish but not
overbearing. The presentation of the food was excellent.

This eatery will remind you of the
style of restaurants of Key West. It has sort of a lay back
attitude specializing in wings, Burgers, shrimp and chowder.
|
 |
I'll say this, they have some of the
best wings in all of St. Augustine. They get them shipped in
from Purdue Chicken and they are big. The burgers are big as well.
They offer a burger they call their "Paradise Burger." This is
big and fashioned off of the famous Jimmy Buffet Song. It's a
great burger. They have also won many awards for their Chowder
in the Great St. Augustine Chowder Debate for 11 years now.
Also featured are some great salads. Big
salads with plenty of choices. The Sunset Shrimp and scallops is
also a favorite among the locals. $15.99
A favorite hang out for many of the "Bikers"
coming through the area. One tip for the bikers...Don't park
in front of the restaurant where they reserve parking for you.
The cars parked in the angled spot will back into your bikes!
They invite bikers to park there but it is a BAD area to park your
bike. They share the area with cars and vans and there is very
little room for the cars to back out without hitting the bikes.
You will get hit by some old bastard not paying any attention!

This is a sandwich shop that will surprise
you. Located next to Rembrantz in the Art Walk section of King
Street near the Post office and College in the Old City. This is a
great place to go for lunch. Good food and huge portions.
My wife Doris had one of their specialty salads. She got the
small portion and that was huge. Fresh and flavorful and a lot
of surprises in it. I got the Teriyaki Chicken Wrap. This was
a bit of a surprise because the only thing that resembled a wrap
here was the fact that the food was wrapped. Other than that
it resembled more of a Chimmichonga than a sandwich wrap. This
thing was huge and covered with salsa and salad and nacho chips.
It had so much going on you had to eat it with a knife and fork.
It was a wonderful surprise. Not at all what I expected when I
ordered a "Wrap" but it was very tasty, fresh and plenty of it.
They also feature Pitas, Pizza, Quesadillas,
Nachos, Shakes and Smoothies.
The menu also offers
an Atkins salad that features your choice of
chicken, steak, tuna, or turkey with melted
cheeses served over greens with onions,
olives, tomato, cucumbers and more.

Russo's Italian
Restaurant Chas Stamm January
2009 The place doesn't look like much
from the outside but...this place is a jewel.
We went here with a party of 6.
Three couples. They do take reservations and that is a good
thing. Make them. This is a small Italian restaurant that does
get crowded. This is not your large chain like Carraba's or
Olive Garden. This is your quaint little Italian mom and pop
restaurant. And...they do it well. Everyone in our Party
loved the dishes, the service and the atmosphere.
The salads were fresh and crisp.
For and appetizer we
tried the Fried Calamari $8.95. It was
great. Tender and lightly battered, and served with lemon
wedges and marinara sauce.
Bob Thornton had the Veal Florentine for
$17.95. He loved it. What was interesting was you could
hear the chef pounding the heck out of the veal with a hammer
in the kitchen. He also had a great bowl of New England Clam Chowder
to start off his meal. Bob's wife Diane and my wife Doris had
the Lobster Ravioli from the special board. Another winner!
Sandra Verberne had the Eggplant Parm for $11.95. She loved
this dish as well. Her husband Jeff had the Shrimp Scampi for
$14.95. Again...a hit!
I like to judge Italian restaurants by their
spaghetti, their meatballs and their Italian sausage. So for this
first time meal for me, I ordered the spaghetti with meatballs and
sausage. $11.95 The sauce was excellent. Plenty of it
and not watery at all. The meatballs were fine and the Italian
sausage was great. I took some home and can't wait to
have the leftovers. Spaghetti is so good after sitting a day or two.
I have to go back to try their
the Stuffed Pork Chops $17.95. Two double-thick
pork chops, butterflied and filled with
mozzarella and prosciutto, covered in port
wine mushroom demi-glace. We saw a couple
of these dishes being served and they certainly got my attention.
This is a really good place to eat. Oh
yeah...Don't forget dessert menu! Try the Crème Brulee. Our entire
table loved this.
The help was very attentive and knowledgeable
about their menu. The also offer a full wine list and serve beer and
soft drinks as well.
All in all this is one of the better Italian
restaurants in our area. It's located in the Publix parking
lot on Race Track Road.

Caddy Shack
Chas Stamm
December 2008 My wife and I have lived
in the King and Bear for two years now and have yet to see a write
up on the Caddy Shack. What's up with that? No one will
give these guys a review?
Well, I like the place. We
must have gone there twenty times over the past two years and
although it has really nothing "Special" on the menu...I like
several things and...they are certainly convenient. Having the
Caddy Shack movie as it's theme, the menu is basically burgers,
fries and wings. OK, I know, they have lots of other items
too.
My wife, being a vegetarian gets the quesadilla or a tuna sandwich.
You can also ask for a Veggie-Burger. It's not on the menu but
they do have it.
I think they have a great burger. And they
have some great wings. The Spaghetti and the Meatball is also
one of my favorites. For lunch...or after a round of golf I
like the Sheboygan's own beer brat. As you can see there is
not much in the way of health food on this menu. But wait!...
they do have some pretty good salads listed... although... I have
never tried one. Oh yeah...the Nacho's will knock your socks
off!
Terrible food for a health nut but...what the
heck, once in a while...you just feel like a cheeseburger.
Now if they served some macaroni and cheese or
a grilled cheese sandwich...Oy!. You'd never get me out of
there...And I'd be another 40 pounds heavier.
I still like the place!
The large screen TV's are a great plus
during the football games and other sports events. One thing
they can improve on is their beer. Being from the northeast
part of the US, I like a cold beer with my burger. Or my
wings. Or nachos!! A cold beer preferably in a frosted mug. The
colder the better. I can't get a cold beer at the Caddy Shack.
Nor can I get a frosted mug. In fact, at times I get the beer
in a plastic cup! That will never do. When they come to
my table with a draft beer in a plastic cup...Nope...send it back.
Give me and iced tee instead thank you.
Anyway...I still think this is a great place.
Another thing in favor of this place is their deserts. Try
their Belgian Waffle. It's terrific. Big enough for two. Sometimes we are
coming home from a movie and stop in to Caddy Shack just to split a
Belgian Waffle.

Caps on the Water
Chas Stamm December 2008 This
is one of our favorite dining places in the St Augustine area.
Situated on the East side of the Intracoastal Waterway Caps offers
an outstanding dining experience, particularly at sunset.
| We got here at 5 pm which turned out
perfect for sitting outside for the eventual sunset at
around 6 pm ( December 26) There
is quite a lot of outdoor seating along the waters edge.
Huge oak trees growing up through the decks ads to the
atmosphere. The outdoor seating section really makes this
place.
They have two bar areas with one
situate along the waters edge.
To start off, we tried the she crab
soup. Whenever we see She Crab Soup on the menu we
have to try it. This was good but Harry's in downtown
St Augustine is till the best around. |
 |
For entrées', my wife had the Vanilla Grouper
as did one of our friends on this trip...Horse Radish crusted
grouper over whipped potatoes and fried spinach in a sweet vanilla
rum sauce.$21.95 Both
thought the dish was excellent. I had the Chicken Florentine
served over fettuccini which was also excellent. Service was
good and the waitress new her dishes well. Another in our
party got the St Augustine Shrimp ...Fifteen fried shrimp
garnished with tomato salsa and two sides.
$17.95. They loved it!
Plenty of local seafood dishes served here.
They also have an Oyster Bar.
To get there you take the Vilano Bridge and go
north on A1A and turn left at the Castle. go to the end and
turn right and Caps is on the left.
Great selection of food, great atmosphere and
a view that will knock your socks off. I highly recommend Caps on
the Water. They do not take reservations and they do get crowded.
You may see a lot of cars in their parking lot but do not give up.
They have plenty of seating and can handle the crowds.

We came back to this place just to check out
some of the negative reviews and the fact that they had a learning
phase to get through our first time here. I am happy to say
that this time the food was pretty good. Service was much better as
well. The lasagna was good. The sauce, I can see some
thinking was bland. To me it was not bland. Although I do not
like a very spicy marinara sauce.
I like Nonna's restaurant but sometimes
Nonna's sauce is too spicy for me. Giovanni's was just fine
for me.
I wish they would offer their Pizza in the
dining room. The best thing on the menu is their pizza and
they do not offer it on the menu. They make a great pie but only
offer a 10" Pizza in the dining room. Not the same!
All in all I liked this place. This was
a good dining experience for me. Give them another try.

My fair warning to those wanting delivery from this place! Drove by
and saw the "we deliver" sign and were elated. Someone who delivers
to the King & Bear...what a concept. Placed our order at 5:30pm with
the owner and were told it would be an hour for delivery. It was
Sunday night so ok one hour no problem. At 6:30pm we called and were
told by the owner our food was leaving the restaurant as we
spoke...hmm ok. At 7pm we called again and were overwhelmed by the
excuses and that the owner had no idea what was taking so long or
where the delivery driver even was. At 7:30pm our food was delivered
along with a call from the owner apologizing (for the very first
time) for the delays and offering up dining discounts for next time
(lol). Food was ok but as expected cold. Much too little much too
late! Needless to say we will never be dining with this place again!
Bottom line here is if you cannot provide the same service you
provide in your restaurant for delivery then you should not offer
delivery service.

cheese drsg. Service was fair. We found the atmosphere very
bland/take out pizza yet prices were those of a little nicer
restaurant.
Rolls were very bland and unimaginative salad. Ziti was pasta
with cheese and you couldn't really taste the marinara sauce, very
bland. Likewise with the spaghetti.

Cobblestones at the Creek Pat
Lanpher 10-2008 108 Julington Plaza
Drive (east of San Jose/SR 13 about 2.5 miles behind Walgreen's). It
opens at 4:00 p.m. 904-230-6744
We arrived early (5:30) but the restaurant was already busy. After
we were seated and sat for a while, a waiter asked if we had been
served, which was unsettling, and made us think they were
unorganized. But he explained that the restaurant was rated highly
in the Jacksonville area (Top 25 in Jacksonville Magazine
2006-2007-2008) and had an extensive wine service. During the
evening, the level of service, on a a scale of 1 (irritating
aloofness to 10 (suffocating) was a 5.
The food menu contains a variety of appetizers, salads/soups, meat
(beef and pork), seafood, and pasta. The prices seemed fairly
upscale, with the beef items ranging between $21 and $28.
On the other side of the large menu was the wine list. The wine list
was fairly extensive, but in our opinion priced rather highly. For
example, a Kendall-Jackson Meritage was priced at $37 and we saw it
at Winn-Dixie this week for $12. Also, for a restaurant that
advertised itself (per the waiter) as emphasizing wine, it was
surprising that the wines did not list the vintage.
They served warm, crunchy bread and olive oil immediately after the
waiter noticed us. My wife ordered ice tea and I had a martini
"straight up," which was served in a cocktail glass. I asked the
waiter why and he replied that his male customers seemed to prefer
that and he assumed I did as well. Later on, I ordered a bottle of
beer (they have no beer on tap) and the waiter asked if I wanted a
glass, and I said yes. He brought the glass of beer, but they had
poured the beer at the bar. I have never encountered that mode of
service before.
We had the "Crispy Calamari" appetizer, which was not crispy, but
the calamari was good, as were the marinara and pesto dipping
sauces. The main problem with the dish, other than the seme-soggy
calamari, was that we received three large squid "bodies" among the
calamari rings that good fried calamari should consist of.
The salads that are included in the dinner were good. We both had
the house salad, consisting mainly of romaine lettuce, slivers of
carrots, and chopped tomatoes, celery, and cucumbers. With the
dressing of our choice, it was good.
We both had pasta. I had Shrimp and Sausage Rigatoni in pesto sauce
and my wife had Mushroom and Spinach Tortellini in Alfredo sauce.
Both were very tasty. The one strange thing was that my entree was
served in a noticeably cold plate, while my wife's plate was warm.
The dessert selection, which we passed, consisted of about 4 items
verbally listed for us by the waiter.
Overall, our experience was uneven. The salad and entrees were good
and that is the main reason to go to this restaurant. But other
areas were strange (cold entree plate). We will probably return to
see if the areas we didn't like were an aberration and to try other
entrees to see if they are as good as ours were on this night.
Go to this restaurant for the entrees . Don't go to this restaurant
for its wine reputation. Skip paying three times the retail price
for wine from a wine list that does not list the vintage as that
pricing is unfair to consumers. The restaurant occasionally offers
50% off a second entree through print advertising, although we
forgot to take our coupon with us on this day.

This may turn out to be one of our favorite
Italian restaurants of the area. Vito's is at the corner of
Baymeadows road and Rt 13 in Jacksonville.
Great food. Great service and good prices. This is a local
place. Mostly locals going there because it is well away
from the tourist areas.
We started off with some great home made
garlic bread covered with cheese. The Chicken Francese for
$14.95 melted in your mouth. My wife had the Eggplant
Parmigiano with Pasta for $11.95 which was described as
wonderful. Our friends, Mike and Marlene Bailey had one of
the Specialty Pizza's. They asked for a thin crust "with the
crust being crispy on the bottom." They got it exactly that way.
I can tell you it was great.
The service...well they must have had four
people coming around to our table at different times to ask if
we had everything we wanted. Just enough as to not be too
much in our faces. Very friendly and competent staff.
Our two dinners came to $35.00. We were
very pleased and will be back to try some of the other dishes.

My husband and I ate here on a Monday evening. The restaurant had
parking available for it's customers (we love) only one other table
was in the restaurant when we ate. Our reservations were at 5:30
PM and we had drinks next door at the Casa Monica hotel. The
court-yard of this Inn is beautiful and the building outside is
colorful and clean, located in the heart of downtown. They have a
limited selection of liquor at the bar. I had the Stuffed Chicken -
A tender breast of chicken stuffed with mozzarella and basil,
lightly breaded, then baked golden brown. Served over a Boursin
cream sauce, with vegetable and starch du jour.($17.95)My husband
had the Seafood Thai Curry - Jumbo shrimp and sea scallops are
sautéed with caramelized onions, apples, scallions, and peppers in
an authentic red curry coconut sauce. Served with Jasmine
rice.($21.95). Entrees were served with a small salad and bread.
The food was acceptable and we finished our meals and were
satisfied. My favorite was the pesto olive oil served with the
bread. I was disappointed in the service and the inside atmosphere.
The dinning room tables need a clean wipe and walls were not clean.
The paper menu needed replaced. I thought I was over reacting until
another table arrived and had to wiped off the seat to sit down. Our
server never asked how our dinners were after serving. He said he
had been working there for 10 years. I think that the food editors
of these magazines need to continue to update their lists to
determine if the quality of the restaurant can be maintain. This
place continues to be rated year after year. Maybe it was a bad
night. Off to another restaurant!

This is a New
Orleans style of restaurant right down on the water in the old city.
A nice place to go with company. It is charming. Sitting
outside on the patio day or night is great. Food is always
good. Daily special are always a good bet. This day I
had a meatloaf dish and my wife had a salmon dinner. Both were
off the special. Our friends had the trout. All were great
tasting, good looking, and all had a New Orleans flavor to them.
This place has been here a long time. Try the "she crab" soup.
It is wonderful.
They usually have
an acoustical musician on hand for background music as well. For
dessert, try the Chocolate Bread Pudding. For $5 you'll have a
wonderful dessert that will comfortably feed four.
It gets a bit
crowded so you may want to put your name on a call ahead list.

Favorites!

This is a little place that does not offer much in the way of outside looks but it has
some of the best food in town. All the locals eat here. Some come just for the
Blue Crab and Corn Chowder. That is worth the trip alone!
If you are a "Chowder Head" like I am, don't pass this place up.
My wife and I have eaten here three times now and have not been disappointed yet.
This latest time I ordered one of the daily specials...Shrimp and Meatballs over
Pasta. $13.95 It was outstanding! My wife, Doris, being a vegetarian, ordered
the Blackened Salmon Raspberry $10.95 over salad. She says it was the best salmon
she ever had.
The food is great here. The ambiance could use some work because it is in
somewhat of a "dated" strip mall but if you are into some good food, lots of it,
with not a lot of frills, try this place.
They are not open on Sunday. Monday through Saturday! Casual
dress.
Diner for two with soft drinks came to $32.00 Very Good food!

Fantastic! The Blue Crab and Corn Chowder is AWESOME!
My husband and I visited after reading the review. He ordered the Chicken Marsala.
Lots and lots of tender, sweet chicken and he said the sauce was incredible! My
lasagna was not your norm, by far. So full and robust! Portions were very generous,
to say the least.
We received a friendly greeting upon arrival and our waitress did a superb job. Her
recommendations were very helpful and she insisted we sample one of their delicious
desserts, chocolate mousse. It was very light, flavorful and completed our meal.
Being in a strip mall and small in space, should not deter one from this establishment.
Thank goodness they are now OPEN ON SATURDAYS!!!

Chas Stamm Sept 2007 Good Italian food served family style. Good sized
portions. PLENTY OF FOOD. Four of us had salad and two small sized dinners and it was
more food than we could eat. Tortelloni was very good. Shrimp and Scallops Orso was
equally as good. The Apple Gorgonzola Salad fed all four of us even though we
ordered the "Small" portion. Friendly staff which parade you through their maze

This is a very relaxed atmosphere, clean and reasonably priced eatery. Crab cakes
are "Excellent" according to Dee Soman and my wife Dorith Stamm. The Pasta
Alfredo was OK. The feedback I get about the shrimp was that "Osteens is
better." I guess they will have to work on that. The New England clam chowder
was also great. One thing this place has going for it is it is close to WGV. I guess
that's something.

Thought we would try this one for dinner since it is so close. Big mistake! Salads must
have been prepared that morning as they were ice cold (in a bad way) and lettuce was
starting to brown. Steamed oysters were anything but steamed. Came out in a bucket full of
water as though they had been boiled and had absolutely no flavor! Scallops looked nice
enough when served but also had no flavor! Hoping this place can turn things around. On a
positive note the atmosphere and the service was excellent.

Outback Crab Shack County
Rd 13n by Chas Stamm August 2007 I guess the only thing good
I can say about this place was the size of the portions of the food. The service was
dreadful. Four of us went dining, three got meals and one had to wait until every one else
was finished before getting her meal. No apologies. and... when the food finally
arrived, it was the wrong dish! Not what we ordered. Again, not one
apology! Never did get our final order. Can't say that cleanliness was their
strong point either.
| Mostly deep fried food on the menu. I guess the locals
like it. I also thought they might have an area of the restaurant that might offer air
conditioning. ( This was August ) But no. Just fans to move the humid air around
with water sprayed into the fans. This was OK for a while but then the water started
leaking and all you got was a rain shower on your food.
The place resembled a scene from "Deliverance." Prices were good
if you got your meal. We wound up walking out on the place.

Will never go back here again, way overpriced for this type of
place. My husband and I sat eating our joke of a meal, when the
bus boy came by to empty the trash. The entire bottom of the
bag broke, and it literally looked like someone just tossed
their cookies! He just left if there! Several employees walked

This is a fairly new restaurant on SR210. There was plenty of
seating and the restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. The service was slow at times
as the restaurant became busier. The food was good but some of the dishes seemed too
sweet. Not as good as PF Changs, but a lot closer if you can avoid the SR210 traffic. No
fortune cookies when I paid the bill, but tasty chocolate mints instead. Dinner with
appetizers for three people was $63.

This is one of the better Italian restaurants we have found in the area. I hear their
pizza is great but that is a long was to drive to have pizza. Every time we go there
we are swayed away from their pie buy the rest of their great menu. The ravioli was
excellent. Tortelloni was also very good. The chicken Alla Rosa was great.
Prices are reasonable and service is excellent. One of these days we will get around
to trying their pizza but for now the rest of the menu is just too inviting.

CR210 location: It is so good to have Italian food served other
than chicken parmigiana or eggplant or baked ziti (although I like
all those very much!). It's the other flavors I miss, like chicken
francese and chicken marsala (they serve your choice of chicken or
veal for most items). They have a full menu with lots of delicious
choices. They are also currently running a lunch special where you
can taste most anything on the menu for $5.95 (dine-in only, not
take out) at the CR 210 location, everyday 11 a.m.-3 p.m. I've
eaten at both CR210 and Phillips Hwy. locations; CR210 is closer,
but they were both terrific. One diner at Phillips Hwy said they go
there a few times a week, so they just get one dinner and split it.
You can easily do that, there is enough food on one dish, e.g., my
Chicken Francese had two large chicken breasts over pasta with a
salad and garlic rolls (or bread with butter). They have all the
baked dishes and fish dishes. I have not had the chance to check out
the appetizers or desserts as yet, but they looked good. You can go
casual or dress up. The dinner special is a great way to try dishes
you've not had before! You need to go to the link and read the dish
descriptions on their menu, too many choices to list here. This
review is already on it's way to a novel. Enjoy, I did!

Great prices, great island atmosphere, great wings and wow those garlic parm fries. I
cannot say enough good things about this place. There are many wing places in St Aug and

They have five categories of wing flavors for any temperature you like. The flavors in

They have ample outside seating but seating inside is limited so try to avoid rush

This has to be one of the best steak houses in the country. A bit on the pricey
side but what isn't these days. They tell us your steak is broiled at 1,800(degrees)
oven and served on a plate heated to 500 degrees.
This is not a place you would go to every day but for that special occasion, and you
like steak, this is the place to go. You can not find a better steak. The petite
Fillet and Shrimp was excellent. The other shrimp dishes were also excellent. The
side dishes of potatoes and vegetables were great. In our party of 6 this night, everyone
raved about their meals. Additionally, the menu includes select fresh seafood & other
meat entrees. They offer a variety of fresh-cooked vegetables, including seven kinds of
potatoes, salads, homemade desserts. Order the cheesecake and they bring not a slice but a
small cheesecake pie that will feed four.
The service was excellent. The food is outstanding. And...the view...well
the restaurant is situated right on the river looking at the Jacksonville skyline.
We often frequented the Ruth's Chris Steakhouse back in Jersey, thinking that they had the
best steaks I have ever eaten. This Jacksonville location is equally as good. If you
have high standards in steak, you have to try this place.
We went to the Jacksonville location for the view. There is another location in

| Good place. Very good food. Service was also very
good. This restaurant has a Spanish or Cuban cuisine that has a lot of interesting
dishes on the menu. My wife, Doris had the Cannelloni de Langosta.
Cannelloni pasta filled with Maine lobster meat, shrimp, scallops and shallots blended
with a lobster cream sherry mornay cheese sauce. That was great. $19.95.
I took the Tenderloin Salteado which featured tenderloin tips onions, green peppers,
garlic, mushrooms, potatoes, chorizo with a heavy red wine sauce and yellow rice.
Again...Excellent! 18.95 |
| Pricing is fair for an upscale eatery with a central location
and wonderful ambiance. Parking is always a pain in the butt in the old city but the
Columbia has it's own parking lot which you get to from Spanish St. Get your ticket

daily dinner specials. The last time we dined there, we started with the mozzarella

This has to be the best Mexican restaurant in
St Augustine. The best I've been to anyway. I like
Mexican food. This place is a step above the
rest.
La Cocina is in a different ballgame from El
Pottro and Acapulco. ( Both of whom I like )
This place has great quality, great taste and
an excellent staff. We had a party of 6 and the waitress
didn't write anything down... and didn't get anything wrong. We had
a lot of questions about the menu and we split the check three ways!
She knew the menu well and all the ingredients of all the dishes and
made some great recommendations.
We had some interesting meals from the menu.
The Jose Cuervo Flaming Shrimp Fajitas not
only tasted great but they put on quite a show at the table
presenting it.
The Vera Cruz-Style Red Snapper was
"Excellent."
Same with the Shrimp and Peppers.
Bob Thornton recommends the Fish Millanaise.
Don't forget to try some of their very good
appetizers. The Queso Fundido was a nice surprise. I
hear the Shrimp and Cactus Salad is outrageous.
All great food. The service could have
been a little faster but tolerable. Just be patient.
It is worth it. Everyone in our party had a great meal. If you
like Mexican food...this is the best in town.

Rest Review comments:
Looking for good NY style pizza, then look no further than Jenk's.
We've been getting takeout from Jenk's for several years now and
they have been very consistent with their pizza. They have all of
the standards. We've also had many different dishes, but I still
think that their pizza is what puts them ahead of everyone else. If
you're looking for NY pizza in NE Florida, then give Jenk's a try.

I agree with Brian. This place has some
great NY Pizza. I ask for the "Extra Thin and well done" pie. You
have to sort of insist and they will make it that way.
Excellent. Some of the best around.

Great Pizza! Just he way we like it.
Thin crust, well done and not too much tomato sauce. Some
places just put too much sauce on their pizza. This was great!
We will definitely be back!

The pizza was so good here I had to come back
for a second time before writing this review. For a lover of
the "Thin Crust, NY style of Pizza", this is the place to go in the
St Augustine area. This is the best. Ask for a thin
crust and "well done" and it's like you are back in Brooklyn, NY.
The place is not much to look at. Inside the windows and walls look
like they have not been cleaned in years but do not let that stop
you. The pizza is great. I had to come back to this place to
see if it was a fluke. It was not. The pizza was great
both times. Thin crust. Crispy. Cooked to perfection. They
have a full bar and do serve other Italian food which I will have to
try but for now, I just can't get past the Pizza.
If you like thin crust, NY style pizza, you
have to try this place. The atmosphere is relaxed and seems more
like a beachcomber style of restaurant than a pizzeria.
Friendly service and cold beer. Their sauce is made fresh
everyday.
Go across the Vilano Bridge and make a right
at the light. Then make a right at Vilano Rd. the place
is near the end on the right.
This place is not related to the two other
Benito's restaurants up on CR210 and the one up by the Avenue's mall
on US rt 1.

Rest Reveiw stars: *
Fairly new place that opened up next to the gas stations at I95 in
the old Sbarro location. I was hoping for good pizza since it is so
close to the WGV and they deliver but the pizza was the equivalent
of a half cooked frozen pizza. It's bad...really bad. Sauce had no
flavor and cheese was not even melted. Do not waste your time or
money on this one. I really hope they can turn it around otherwise
they will never make it

Originally from Columbus, Ohio. The Pizza Garden has excellent
pizza and Italian entrees. Very tasty. They have both thick
(Sicilian) and thin pizza. My wife and I
like the thin crust, my son likes the thick crust. I would highly
recommend it. Easy to find on A1A, just north of Rt.312.

Al's Pizza Jacksonville
Alyssa 5/19/2008
Fabulous! They have several locations but we always go to the one on
Phillips Hwy. They can get very busy at peak times but so worth the
wait. Kid friendly with several items on the menu just for little
ones. The service is always fantastic!
On a typical night we get a calamari appetizer ($6.99)and half
cheese / half sausage, pepperoni, onion ($11.99+). Calamari is so
fresh and never soft or chewy. Pizza is thin and quite delicious.
The sauce is what makes it unique...somewhat of a sweeter sauce.
They have everything from salads to wraps to calzones to pizza of
course. Menu and locations available on line
www.alspizza.com. Highly
recommended.

CiCi's Pizza

11/2007 This place is unique in that for $5.99 you get a salad and all the pizza you can
eat. All by individual slices. It is served cafeteria style. The kids
like this as you get to try all different styles of pizza one slice at a time.
Chicken, pineapple, steak, Hawaiian, pepperoni, etc.
Good value for the price but the pizza sucks and the last two times we were there the
place was filthy. No offence but this is "assembly line pizza." Even
worse than Domino's if that is possible.

good. I like it. You have to tell them specifically..."Extra Thin Crust
and Crispy!" They will make it that way and it is not bad. I like a thin
crust pie. If you do also, try it. It is one of the best I've had down here.
Would be nice if they delivered.
The weird thing about this place is that they are CLOSED ON SUNDAY! What's with
that?! Back in Jersey, that was the biggest marketing day for Pizza sales.
Football and Pizza! Hello!
They tell me everyone down here goes to the beach on Sunday and they do not order
pizza. So they stay closed.
Oy!
They have a web site that you can get a coupon or two and save a couple of bucks www.cinospizza.com

Borrillo's Pizza
| Borrillo's Pizza & Subs 88 San Marco Ave.
St. Augustine 829-1133 Charles
Stamm 10/2007 This place was recommended to us by a local resident as being
"Good New York Pizza." They advertise that on their signage out front. It
is OK. A bit too "cheesy" for me. The cheese was laid on too thick
for me. Some, in fact many may like that.
It was good and very filling. We had to take most of it home. This place is
worthy of your opinions.
This place also advertises " Voted Best Pizza in St Augustine" by folio
magazine 6 year in a row.
I don't know about that but...it's worth a try.

Spanky's Pizza
| Spanky's Pizza US Rt. 1 south in the Publix Shopping
Center St Augustine. Charles Stamm 11/2007 This place also
advertises "New York Style Pizza." I doubt if anyone in this place has
ever been to New York. It appeared to me that they believe the difference in a New
York style of pizza is in the size of the pie. Nothing about the type of cheese,
amount of cheese, and what goes into making of the dough and sauces. We asked for a
"Thin Crust" but got anything but. It was as thick and mushy as
"Dominos." Ah!
I think they thought that if you make a 16 inch pizza, that qualifies as "New York
Style Pizza. NOT!

My husband, being from Chicago, said we had to try this place since getting "great
pizza" in Florida is next to impossible. The pizza is deep dish with a yummy buttery
crust and any topping you like. It's a neat place with tables, a bar, and a lounge area.
According to my husband the atmosphere is straight from Chicago. They have live
entertainment and the bands we have seen were surprisingly good! The service is good but
the pizza's take a while so order an appetizer (hence only four stars). Check them out www.chicagopizzabakery.comRating

Pizzalley's
| Pizzalley's on St George St
Augustine Charles Stamm 10/2007 This
place is right in the middle of St George Street in downtown St Augustine. In the
Old City. Very good pizza. They are the ones handing out samples in the street
as you walk by. They have a nice area to sit in the rear of the restaurant as well serving
a host of Italian specialty dishes. Their dough is made fresh on the premises.
It can get a bit hectic during peak dinner times but the food is good. The front
section of the restaurant seems squished into an ally but after you've been there a couple
of times you get used to it. It works. Pizza is personal so...you have to give
it a try.
