My orange cat, kind of a norwegian forest cat type, is very highly 'strung' and is easily upset or annoyed - which has made him less accepting of the other cats, and has made him a bit nervous of attacks from them, so he tends to hide most of the time.(He's also strongly bonded to me, and loves to curl up and/or sleep with me, and is a great 'nurse' when recovering from colds or surgeries, and is mostly a wonderful cat - he just isn't crazy about having to share me with other cats, and as he gets older, is more vulnerable to attacks (for play, mostly) from the other, younger ones.)I tried these collars to see if they'd make ANY difference, and while I have little 'faith' in pheromone 'treatments' (I've tried before with little or no effect), these have actually helped calm him down - - a little.For example, I'd guess there's been about a 25%-50% (yes, I'm making that up, but is my best sense of it) reduction in screaming cat battles with him since wearing the collar.(Oddly, almost aways started by one of the other cats trying to help cuddle or groom him - he's a real floofy kitty - and he gets really pissed off over it, and starts a hissing and screaming fight!)It has NOT affected his fear of thunder or loud noises (he still hides under the bed during t-storms), however, so its effectiveness is limited. :)Since he's not worn a collar since I adopted him (he was surrendered by a couple who said he attacked their newborn when he was a kitten, and don't know if he wore one then), I was suprised at how well he adapted to it - I do keep it pretty loosely set, so he could wiggle out of it if he gets caught or really hates it. Maybe he wore one as a kitten?So, it has seemed to help with his situation a little, but it will take months to evaluate whether its' a real effect or not.$5 a month for 'pheromone' therapy sounds a bit rich, to me, but if it really is helping then might be worth it?(The collar is easy to adjust - sort of like a very loose version of a 'reversable' wire tie.)Scam or real? I'm leaning very slightly in the "real" direction on this one.I will give one to a friend who has a VERY nervous cat to see if that one shows any benefit.PS. The collars are sealed individually, so presumbably keep those 'pheromones' intact.

Our male cat is about six years old and was getting to be annoying with his cries that we couldn’t figure out the reason. We were apprehensive about trying these collars but after a few weeks, we were amazed that he had calmed down. Because the collar is black we can’t even see it on our totally black cat. The fact they are made with natural ingredients along with pheromones is why we decided to try them and highly recommend them to anyone with a cat or small dog with anxiety issues.
