Did not like this fan. It had a very loud whine and the motor body was smaller than the original, so the baffle cup did not fit correctly, returned. Bought an SKP after market blower, worked perfectly, no whine, baffle fit. About $20.00 more, but about 1/3 the price of a Subaru blower.

This blower motor is not compatible with 2005 Subaru Impreza. Even after removing old motor from housing, the new motor is a completely different size which will not fit in housing. The plastic surround to which this motor is mounted is not remotely close to the Impreza housing and is impossible to adapt.

This blower does NOT fit a 2005 Subaru Impreza. By the time I tried to install it, I had exceeded the time in which I could return the item. Me being me, I thought - "I will make it work!" 6 hours later and a lot of remanufacturing the original blower housing, swapping fan cages, & bolting everything together I finally succeeded. I would strongly recommend against this path. A huge time suck. With that said. The blower is a tad bit larger than the old one so I get lots of air. In the end it was a win, but double check for yourself for vehicle compatibility. Amazon's garage is not always right.

Most DIY backyard mechanics who have ever needed to change the HVAC blower in their own car are totally daunted by even the idea of it. I've had my old 2001 Subaru Outback since it was barely a year old. A quarter of a million miles later, the fan started to make weird noises and slow down. I was having nightmares about when I had to practically disassemble the entire dash and most of the center console just to get to the heater on one of my other old cars. I discovered that this isn't the case at all with my old Subaru. Tuck back a wiring harness that runs next to it, disconnect one wiring terminal, take out three screws, and the old one literally fell out onto the floorboard. This new one was a perfect fit replacement, and installed easily. The whole job from start to finish only took about 5 minutes. Now, only time will tell how long it will last. When old Scooby turns over a half a million, I'll update the review. :)
