the material is very thin and cheap, the patch is also scratchy through the material, you would need to put layer between your skin and the top

The door lock actuators on most vehicles of early 2000s vintage are something that is far more economical to replace yourself than to have a mechanic do it. The labor cost is probably 8-10 times what the part costs. It is worth noting that if you are not replacing the driver's door actuator but the rear door on the driver side, you will have an extra cable connection on the actuator that is unused.
