Works perfect and is a far better option to be able yo just replace a type k thermocouple without having to buy a complete unit!

For the price, this is a really nice mandrel. It’s heavy and absolutely does the job I bought it for (making bangles). Pleasantly surprised.

I'm a metalsmith and this mandrel is substantial and heavy enough to use without anchoring to anything (still use caution, as always). Worked well for my lastest project.

1). It is a cast iron mandrel - likely it is not carbon steel and I am not sure that it is tempered or not because I did not have a chance to work with it yet. But I expected it to be machined from inside.2). The first mandrel came with deep dent in it. Replaced the first one and the second one arrived with a large cavity on the surface from casting and not being machined over.I will try to request the third one to see If get lucky and there will be no serious defects. I can use it but it is a very low quality item. If the price was $20 then it would be much better but for $47 I will keep replacing...Update - the third one came in a much better shape than the previous two, so I will keep the last one. Still low quality in general but usable.Update after 2 years. I should probably go for Durston mandrel back then (at $73). But this one works for me only because I use it few times a year. The surface is not hardened it will not withstand any more frequent/rigorous use. So, if you plan to use it more frequently, then I would advise to stay away from this product.
