Concord Cast Iron Heavy Duty Tortilla Press, Matte Black, 10" (ASIN : B0DN8FC8DY) There is paint flaking off of this press. If this is cast iron, why is it painted black in the first place? I think the flaking is only on the handle, and a bit on the underside, away from the pressing area. I did a lead test on the flaked handle area, and it passed as no lead. Running a brush over it, no additional paint came off. Aside from that, it assembled easily, and is easy to use.

I'm still trying to figure out why someone would paint cast iron. But here we are, and I'm not impressed. Cast iron should not have anything done to it. This one came already chipping paint. Which means it wasn't functional, as I don't want to consume paint. I thought it was a good price for it when I bought it, but the fact it is painted and chipping means it was a complete waste of money. It is a good size and weight. But I would not buy it again.

Upon opening I saw paint chips on the included parchment paper, then after inspecting more I noticed areas that were chipped. I figured if it was cast iron it wouldn’t be painted black but it’s a no from me. I’m worried about more falling on the tortillas even when using parchment paper.

So I have mixed emotions about this. I have used it a few times and each time I have to pick flakes out of my dough after I press it. The coating is slowly coming off. I washed it really well with a rough sponge to try and get any left over flakes off of it. That mostly worked but I think I might have to take a sander to some areas that the handle rubs on.Overall as a press it works just be cautious about pieces of the finish flaking off. IT is easy to use and great for unleavened bread for passover.

My family and I love eating tortillas. I thought instead of buying them constantly why don't I just make my own. This is a nice solid piece and I think great for someone just starting off. But I guess I've made my batch a little too thick because I could not get the tortilla as then as I would have liked. Mine kept coming out to easily double the thickness that you would get from the store. Not being able to compare to another brand I don't know if it's the press or my dough. There was a small gap at the hinge that I couldn't press down. Honestly though it was probably my mixture that was slightly messed up. But I think anyone just starting off and making tortillas this is something great to use.
