Absolutely necessary if you're assembling flat cables. Very easy to use.

It's the usual cheap garbage you end up getting from Amazon, but hey it works. The tool itself arrived notably scuffed up and the packaging is in desperate need for some copywriting. The vaguely rubber grips on the handle are incredibly small (probably designed for use by the child hands in the sweatshop that manufacture it) and not remotely comfortable. It crimps IDC connectors. For around $10 bucks and the knowledge you are supporting a business that probably uses Uyghur slave labor, your IDC connectors can be successfully crimped too.

This could be the worst tool I've purchased. I've seen this tool advertised by a dozen or more sellers, and each one with supposedly high ratings. The tool is held together with cheap rivets that fall out. There's no leverage so you have to squeeze so hard your wrists will ache. The rubber and plastic hand grips twist and slide off when you squeeze. I tried to attach some 34-pin and 50-pin IDC connectors but none of them worked. The 50-pin connector would not even fit in the tool. The angle of the swivel piece is wrong when trying to crimp large connectors. I gave up and used a small vise which worked much better. I'm sending it back.

This crimper is solid, and does the job perfectly. I was also able to put one side of the handle in a benchtop vice which made it easy to crimp when doing mass crimping.

I've purchased a couple of these idc crimp tools in the past. Mainly because I keep loosing the yellow crimp die thing. I always thought it was kinda of annoying that I couldn't just find that by itself somewhere. (maybe I didn't look hard enough)Thankfully Eowpower has one, when the yellow crimp die thing is firmly attached to the tool. I believe you can still take it off, but it's much, much better then the previous ones I gotten. even though everything else about them is almost identical.
