My children adore making potions, and in addition to producing way too many ad hoc creations, have worked their way through several similar potion kits that have various things in common as well as that differ. This isn't the most creative of the kits, but it hits all the bases. Its got the basic colors, and other little magical ingredients like tiny unicorn horns, glittery bits, a viny plant, etc.The bottles are good typical little ones, and they have a nice variety. The recipe book is nice. And the labels are some of the most fun parts of these kits, since they let the kids really get into what the theme/purpose/magical effect of the potions are.Kids that like or that might like making potions will have a blast with this.Obviously you want to have them do it on a tray or over cardboard or in general somewhere you don't mind them possibly spilling a little glittery stuff or food coloring etc. It does come with a funnel, which helps minimize accidental spills, at least.

I found it amusing that the cardboard box says "Please do not let children play with the package to avoid danger as it is not a toy." On the cardboard box. Inside, the items intended for children 7+ include beads, little metal charms, corks, and other things that could be swallowed and cause choking ... which, unlike the cardboard box it comes in, *are* toys. Um, right. Contents safe, box dangerous. Now, to be fair here, I got this exactly what I was getting I need little plastic bottles for a craft project, and I got exactly what I wanted. I would, however, be rather reluctant to give this to a child. I'll mention several concerns as I go along. As you can see from my (admittedly not the greatest) pictures, the bottles are very small, averaging about 1.5" without the corks. The largest, the quilted-looking one, is about 2" tall. As the instructions state, anything you want to get in there, you need to use a (provided) funnel.I'm assuming the coloring liquid is just food coloring. That said, I'm not sure I'd want a 7 (according to the package) or 8 (according to the listing) year old child on the loose with bottles of food coloring. The potential for it ending up in places no food coloring should be is disturbingly high. Not to mention the rather fine glitter! One is, it appears, supposed to mix water, coloring, glitter, sequins, and beads (which are, in fact, glow-in-the-dark, though to my disappointment, the "unicorn horn" thingies are not) and put stickers on the bottle. I'm not sure that would entertain even a 7-year-old for long. One of the concerning things about it are those "sequins", some of which look so much like candy sprinkles for cake decorating that I intend to bite one to find out if it's actually plastic or not. They're certainly something a child would eat.And the results are described as "fairy potions." I can absolutely see a young child drinking one thinking they'll turn into a fairy or something. Even assuming the coloring (which the manual calls "paint") is in fact food coloring, one should not swallow beads and glitter. Even something like some white glue to glue the corks in would at least somewhat mitigate that. There is, however, none. This also leads to the possibility that the corks could be easily knocked out (they stick out quite a ways when inserted) and you have that food coloring dying everything it can drip on again. (note: once my project is assembled, I'll be gluing those corks!)As you can see from the tag, I got this as a review item. I wouldn't have paid full price for it; it's quite expensive for what you get. You could probably assemble its like from a craft store for half the price. And it seems unsuited for its intended purpose. It's not actually *bad*, but it's not actually good, either, hence my rating.

Got this to do with my nieces when I babysit, and they LOVE it! It's something fun and involved for you to do with kids and it's not toxic. But maybe make sure you have a drop cloth down, because it can make a mess.
