Best Walkie-Talkies for the Money!! The carrying case is absolutely amazing totally designed with boys in mind! The radio frequency is off the charts and sound is clear as a bell! Easy for my grandson to use with his friends for hours of fun! This set is the perfect size, they can talk from anywhere across the mountain. Best Purchase Nana has made for this grandson!! The motorola two-way radios are a great alternative to using cell phones when your cellular coverage is spotty or non-existant and also preserves your phone's battery life for other uses. The radios are pretty straight forward (no moving parts), not overly complicated to use and is convenient to clip on and carry. However, although advertised with a range of up to 25 miles, the actual range is largely dependent on the terrain, weather and other conditions so your mileage may vary.

I've had several sets of walkie talkies, and I have a another set of Motorola walkie talkies that are a couple years old. All of these things are pretty similar. The range is always unimpressive in real world situations. First thing to remember, the 25 mile claimed range that stands out in our mind for this product is a best case scenario, which they describe as "mountain to valley up to 25 miles". "Open water up to 6 miles". "Neighborhood up to 1 mile". I generally always use mine for fishing. A bunch of friends, in separate boats, over a potentially large area. The best open water range is strictly a line of sight range. If there is an island or any kind of land between you and your friends, the range is greatly reduced. That is the case with all of these FRS license free two-way radios. In order to be "license free", their power is limited. Truly impressive range is only achieved with much more high power radios, which require a license. Besides all that, talking about these specific radios, they are pretty nice, they are very compact, and they work as well as can be expected. The case is very nice, and it has several accessories, which may or may not be needed, but it's nice to have. Something important to realize is that this particular product is not waterproof, or even water resistant. If there's any risk of these getting wet, they could easily be ruined. Be careful with that. The two earpieces are basic, but functional. The part that goes around your ear is pretty uncomfortable, but it does work. The biggest problem I have is the fact that all of the buttons are black on a black background. They are very hard to read. If you look at many other similar products, many of them have buttons with white or some other color that stands out, making them much easier to interpret and use. That's the biggest issue by far. Everything else is somewhere between really nice, and okay. For the price, I would probably look for something that's at least water resistant with more legible buttons. Those products are out there, and Motorola actually makes a few of them. Last thing you want to do is spend $100, and then have it be completely ruined if it gets rained on a little. I gave it four stars. I hope this has been helpful.
