Are these the absolute best walkies out there? No, but I like and even prefer these for several reasons. First off is price. It’s low. Second, they are license free so no fusing there from the “you better have a license for that” crowd. Third, they perform very well for their intended purpose. Nice & loud for us hard of hearing, and has pretty good reach for such a small unit. Forth, they are small & light weight. No big/bulky/heavy unit here. Fifth, it’s simple. Me simple guy. Me like simple things. Knob on top turns on/off & adjusts volume like it should. 1 button on side for push to talk. 2 more up/down channel selection buttons on side. Push both at the same time to lock selected channel so it isn’t accidentally changed by fidgety folks. All good things.I don’t like 2 things about these, but not deal breakers. The biggie first, they come with pre-programmed “privacy codes” or “tones” that prevent them from communicating with other brands. They will hear you, but you won’t hear them. I accept that some people may like that feature, but, if like me you decide this is unacceptable, you will need to fire up your PC, download the Retevis RT22 programming software, plug in your radio(s) to the optional programming cable, and hope it works (it’s a little tricky folks). So that brings me to the 2nd thing l don’t like, which is the software doesn’t automatically detect/find the radios. You need to select the correct “Com” port, and even when you actually select the right port it sometimes doesn’t work anyway. Try, try, & retry Is the game here. Eventually it works and you can “Read” your radio’s current settings, delete the offensive “privacy tones” save via “Write to Radio”. And whallah, it will hear & talk to other brand radios assuming you are on the same frequency. Note that not all brands use the same channel numbers for given frequencies. Overall still 5-Stars for these.

The radios themselves are great and the camo is just an awesome bonus. Signal works over good distances and is super easy to use. Works pretty well with the 777s I originally had

Battery lasts and lasts, range is great, radios are more durable than you would think at first
