I've recently been turning more and more towards refurbishing failed devices rather than merely tossing them away and replacing them.Often, this refurbishment involves desoldering and resoldering various electrical connections. I've used desoldering wick, or little non-self-heated spring-loaded solder suckers, but both frequently prove frustrating to use.So, I decided to try a fully powered device, and found only a few commercially available designs on the consumer-level marketplace. This one is the most common one, and while a number of vendors, here on Amazon, appear to be selling the same exact product under their own brand name all are pretty clearly manufactured in the same factory. So, I chose to give this one a try. And I've been very pleased with the result.Unless you have tiny hands, this should be quite comfortable for one-handed use. All other solutions I've tried require both hands to use... one to apply heat, the other to "wick" or "suck" the melted solder. The tip is easily removed and replaced. I've seen several reviews claiming otherwise, and I can't understand how they could be having difficulty, frankly. The device comes with several different tip sizes, suitable for most pissible desoldering jobs.It also comes with a needle-like device to help clear any potential clogs caused by non-meltable material being sucked into the device.Cleaning out the recovered solder bits is pretty easy. The suction tube, being flexible rubberized tubing, must flex in order to do so, however... and this is the most likely eventual "point of failure" for the device. However, replacing that tubing ought to be pretty easy... if you have a stock of equivalent tubing material on hand.Overall, I can say that this device has dramatically simplified my repair jobs, and us definiteky rorth the price, just in "saved frustration" and saved time.
