I’m in zone 10 in Southern California, and trying to regrow my lawn after it was completely cooked over summer. It’s early October now, but I originally started the process very end of August. I have to say so far I have had the most success with marathon seed. Took about a week for the first seedlings to sprout which to me is super quick. I followed directions and made sure to keep the soil damp for first few weeks. . Every year I have to start my lawn again from top soil, and this new lawn so far is thriving. I do have a few areas that will need another application to fill in the spots, but that also could have been my error since I applied by hand. I will absolutely be buying again and am happy with the results so far.

I bought this to fix spots that dog whiz kills my grass and it grew fine but the blades are much finer and thinner than marathon II sod. I’ll admit I am not a grass expert but the two aren’t the same.

Don’t bother with that silly patch stuff u see advertised. It grows fast and then fails.I’ve used this 5 lb container to redo various parts of my Southern California lawn and it works well. Reseed when it’s about in the 80s. Be sure to properly prep some loose soil, seed and then top with light mulch. Then WATER it 3x per day for first 2.5 weeks. Keep the seeds moist and they will pop. Water with a mist to make sure u don’t disturb the seed bedding. If they dry out they will die

So over the years I’ve had a mixture of regular store bought fescue in the back yard and Marathon sod in the front. Over time I’ve let my yard go. This year, I’ve repaired all sprinklers and killed off all old grass entirely. Tilled the dirt over the summer and have been honestly going back and forth with what type grass to move forward with. Being a volunteer at the local little league in which I maintain all the grass there, I was leaning toward switching to a burmuda lawn. Long story short, I’ve decided with staying with a fescue to keep my lawn healthy and green all four seasons here in So Cal. After searching for awhile for a dwarf fescue, I decided that this was the seed I wanted to go with. I finally got to seed all 2600 sq ft but I only had purchased 4 buckets of the seed. Each bucket said it covered 500 sq ft. I felt that I had enough to do the entire front and back yards so I made sure to put down an adequate amount of topper over the seed and watered 3 times a day, 3-4 min per station just to keep it from drying out.Ok, so to the good part, after day 5, we had a freak lightning storm that blew through and when I was driving home from work I felt that all of my hard work would have been for not with all the rain coming down and I could only imagine how the seed would be washed away. When I arrived home to see the damage, I couldn’t believe what I saw. Little green blades of grass poking up through the soil. Wow, this seed germinated in only 5 days!!I did lose some seed to the rain storm but it’s all good. I very happy so far with this seed. It’s growing in fast after week three or so. Don’t mind those other reviews that say it’s a waste of money or that it doesn’t grow. They obviously have other interests in mind here or they have no idea how to grow grass from seed. Ha!!Mike J.
